Most people are familiar with taking vitamins, and many continue to do so in the form of pills each morning or other designated time of day. But the truth is that they might not be all that effective, if at all. In fact, recent research by Johns Hopkins Welch Center involving a study group of 450,000 people showed that taking daily vitamin pills did not reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease or memory loss from aging, nor did it improve overall health or assist with weight loss.
But that doesn’t mean that taking vitamins is bad or even ineffective — it instead depends on the kind of vitamins being taken and how. Vitamin B-12 and Lipo-B have both been long associated with boosting the body’s ability to burn fat and achieve healthy weight loss, but popping daily multivitamins or Vitamin B pills isn’t likely to do the trick. What is being shown to be highly effective, however, are injections.
Medical professionals have long used Vitamin B-12 injections to help those suffering from vitamin deficiencies. Because vitamin pills can be difficult to digest and often contain a multitude of ineffective substances, injections are a much-preferred, direct method. Each injection delivers vitamins directly into the blood stream, allowing them to work almost instantly.
And now, with increasing research focused on weight loss, these same injections are being found effective for those struggling to achieve results through traditional means. But how exactly do Vitamin B-12 and Lipo-B injections work for weight loss, and who is a good candidate for this kind of treatment?
What is Vitamin B-12, and Why is it So Important?
In order to understand how Vitamin B-12 and Lipo-B injections can assist with weight loss, it’s first vital to understand what they are exactly and how they affect the body.
Vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble nutrient that is also the biggest and most structurally complex vitamin known in nature. Also known as cobalamin, this vitamin is actually involved in metabolic processes in every human body cell. However, humans do not naturally produce their own stores of this vitamin and must therefore rely on a balanced diet and a properly functioning digestive tract to absorb it properly into their system. Because Vitamin B-12 comes from animal proteins, vegetarians and vegans may experience a lack of it and will need to take steps to curb the issue.
Dealing with a Vitamin B-12 deficiency is crucial to health. A lack of Vitamin B-12 can lead to anemia, which is characterized by weakness and fatigue. Low levels of this nutrient can also swiftly result in low metabolism, which means the body is not burning fat as efficiently as it should. In time, numerous other health problems can result from an unchecked Vitamin B-12 deficiency, such as heart disease and dementia. It is estimated that about 15 percent of the public currently suffers from a Vitamin B deficiency.
Some people also have a condition that is known as pernicious anemia, which means their body is not able to properly absorb Vitamin B-12 in the large intestine. People with this condition cannot simply consume more Vitamin B-12 via a pill or food products because they will have difficulty absorbing it. Likewise, the elderly and people with certain gastrointestinal disorders may also have difficulty absorbing the vitamin. In all of these cases, injections are the most efficient (and effective) solution because they administer this crucial nutrient directly into the bloodstream.
What is Lipo-B and Why Does it Go with Vitamin B-12?
Likewise, Lipo-B is actually a combination of Vitamin B-12 and amino acids. The amino acids in Lipo-B are methionine, inositol and choline, which specifically work to assist the liver with metabolizing fat. Just as with Vitamin B-12 injections, Lipo-B injections can be used for a variety of purposes. People with certain health conditions may be administered Lipo-B to give them much-needed boosts of energy or to help them with an underperforming metabolic system. Lipo-B works even better when administered in conjunction with Vitamin B-12, as the body is getting an extra direct dose of this essential vitamin.
On that note, it’s also worth pointing out that Lipo-B may actually help with Vitamin B-12 absorption. The added boost of energy and the enhanced metabolic ability provided by Lipo-B may stimulate the intestine to become more responsive to this vital nutrient.
Vitamin B-12 and Lipo-B Must Be Taken Carefully
Despite the numerous benefits, nobody should just jump into taking Vitamin B-12 and Lipo-B injections without first consulting with a medical professional. The injections themselves should also be administered by a professional to avoid unnecessary risk. If weight loss is the goal, then a healthy diet and exercise plan should be followed in conjunction with the vitamin injections. Not only will these help the individual achieve their desired results, but this will help them do so safely.
It’s also important to note that taking certain medications alongside Vitamin B-12 and/or Lipo-B injections may hinder the nutrients’ ability to be absorbed and work properly, which could lead to other health problems. Some of these medications include:
- Chloramphenicol / Chloromycetin® – an antibiotic used to treat infection
- Metformin – used in the treatment of Diabetes
- Proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole / Prilosec® , lansoprazole / Prevacid®) – Acid reflux and peptic ulcer medications
- Histamine H2 receptor antagonists (cimetidine / Tagamet®, famotidine / Pepcid®, ranitidine / Zantac®, – Peptic ulcer medications.
Before taking any Vitamin B-12 or Lipo-B treatments, talk with your doctor about any current medications you are taking (including those not listed here). Likewise, it is also important to talk about your health and/or weight loss goals.
